People are fed up with the Brexit chaos. It has become a national embarrassment. The promises of the Vote Leave campaign in 2016 have been found to be undeliverable and the process has already damaged our economy and reputation.
Both Boris Johnson’s Conservative party and Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party are determined to pursue Brexit. But whether Conservative blue or Labour red, Brexit would be catastrophic for the UK. A vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to stop Brexit. Liberal Democrats want to stop Brexit and give the people the democratic final say. At this General Election we’re offering voters a real way to stop Brexit by electing a Liberal Democrat majority government, which will revoke Article 50.
Stopping Brexit means that we can focus on tackling the big issues facing the UK right now. Stopping Brexit will generate a Remain Bonus for the public finances, because the economy will grow more quickly than under Brexit – and therefore government receipts will be larger. We forecast that the economy will be 1.9% larger in 2024-25 if we stop Brexit than it would be under the Conservative Government’s Brexit deal. That means government receipts will be higher too, providing a £50 billion Remain Bonus over the next five years.
We will invest the Remain Bonus in our public services and addressing inequality. Once we stop Brexit, we can build a brighter future where we tackle the climate emergency and inequality, properly fund schools and the NHS, and create opportunity for all.
